Lodge Details

Style

A remote and luxurious lodge, hidden away on the shores of Mfangano Island surrounded by tropical gardens.

Setting

On the western shoreline of Mfangano Island, Mfangano Island Camp sits as the only camp on the island with undisturbed views over Lake Victoria.

Accommodation & Facilities

6 rondavels made in the local Luo tribe style – smoothed mud and clay with roofs made from thatch and banana leaves, right near the waters edge. The rondavels are airy and cool, all en-suite with a bath, shower, flush toilets and hot and cold running water. Each one is dotted with local handicrafts and decorated in ethnic style décor, with 4 poster beds that look straight out over the river giving fantastic vistas. Private verandas feature your very own sun beds, perfect for watching that unforgettable African sunset.

The main area consists of a lounge, bar and dining room – open to the lakes shore and ethnically decorated. The small swimming pool is made out of natural stone and directly over looks the lake.

Dining

The food here is exceptional; meals are always fresh and dinner is usually made from the daily catch by the guests – if they fancy fishing that is!

Activities

The waters of Lake Victoria are wonderfully refreshing and perfect for swimming. They are also ideal for fishing for Nile Perch. There are also traditional long boat excursions for romantic sundowners and visits to the nearby Luo villages to introduce yourself to some of the friendliest people you will ever meet. Mfangano Island Camp has spectacular wildlife and birding and is a great place to relax and watch it all unfold before your eyes.
